International Relations Directorate
Introduction
The International Relations Directorate strives to empower students to become competent ambassadors in engaging with international partners and universities through exchanges and electives. We provide students with opportunities to collaborate with overseas counterparts to enrich their academic curriculum where they will be exposed to unique medical, social and cultural experiences.
Core Functions
To foster strong ties with our counterparts from overseas Medical universities
To provide a platform for our students to represent Yong Loo Lin at the international arena
To facilitate unique learning experiences that supplement our academic curriculum
Reinvigorate and redesign the directorate to adapt to the new norm
Initiatives
1 Electives & Exchanges
What are Electives?
Electives are part of YLL’s core curriculum
Students can choose to pursue their electives locally or overseas Students are expected to complete 2 electives over 16 weeks, one in Phase 3 (4 weeks) and one in Phase 4 (8 weeks)
Role of IRD
Supplementary role to Dean’s Office (International Relations)
Provide assistance to students overseas if required
MEDConnect
Initiative to enable students going on overseas electives to connect with each other as well as with students from the partner universities
Electives briefing and guide
Raise awareness and brief preclinical and Phase III students on the elective systems
Develop a comprehensive resource guide to inform the student population on the overseas elective opportunities available to them, how to navigate the portal and what they stand to gain from overseas electives
2 Exchanges
Aim
For students to collaborate with overseas counterparts to enrich their academic curriculum
Through exchanges, students learn more about medical education in the partnering overseas medical universities and indulge in the country’s cultural practices

What are hostings?
Partnering overseas medical universities send medical students to Singapore to learn more about NUS Medicine
Our students get the opportunity to meet and host our overseas counterparts, showing them the Medicine campus and arrange for tours to popular destinations in Singapore
Open to all students to sign up if they are interested in hosting
Arranged by the International Relations Directorate from NUS Medical Society (MedSoc) and the school’s Dean’s Office
Aim
To further relationships with key regional partners
For our students to learn from and engage with other medical students/professionals from universities around the world (especially in SEA region)
