Research Directorate
The NUS Medical Society Research Directorate seeks to promote and support a culture of research within our medical school. We aim to increase student involvement in research, to help nurture the clinician-scientists and clinician-researchers of the future.
We work closely with the Wong Hock Boon Society (WHBS), an undergraduate student research society established in 2010. The WHBS provides aid to students in all stages of their research journey and regularly organises talks and workshops throughout the year.
Events
Wong Hock Boon Society Research Day
Our flagship event, this is our conference open to all NUS medical students as a platform to showcase their research works to the scientific community and their fellow peers. This allows them to receive feedback from accomplished researchers and win prizes for outstanding works. In addition, the WHBS Research Day also features speeches to inspire our students to begin their research journeys.
Research Skills workshop series
We regularly conduct workshops aimed to introduce our students to the skills required to conduct research during their undergraduate years and beyond. This prepares them with the necessary tools to make their research projects run as smoothly as possible. The Directorate engages both internal and external partners such as NUS Libraries and MDPI respectively.
Initiatives
Project Matching
We understand that not all students may have the privilege of having connections with clinicians to embark on research projects. As such, we leverage our platform to reach out to hospitals islandwide to source for research projects. These projects are then broadcasted on a list that is regularly updated and available for all students to view.
